“The Exciting
Sneak- Peak
Technique”
By Sandy
Zimmerman

A revolutionary new hair transplanting
technique removes all of the doubts and
fears of how a patient will look afterward
the transplant.  He/ she see the results
immediately with Dr. Craig Ziering’s
Sneak- Peak Technique or Long Hair
Transplant.  Internationally known and a
leader in the hair transplant field, Dr.
Ziering is the first surgeon to use this
Sneak Peak Technique in the United
States.  With the traditional technique, the
patient usually has to wait 5-10 months
for the hair to grow out.  Dr Ziering
described the process, “We usually
shave the donor hair very, very short on
the back of their head and transplant it.
With this improved Sneak-Peak
Technique, the hair is kept at the same
length as the donor’s hair.  In both types
of transplants, the hairs begin to fall out in
1-4 weeks and new follicles take their
place in the same position, angle,
direction, and location that the graphs
were transplanted.”

The Sneak Peak Technique operations
are more difficult.  This technique
requires more skill from both the
physician and surgical staff.  “We are
dissecting these graphs under the
microscope dealing with longer hair and
with the tissues.  When we transplant
them, the longer hairs are attached and
could get in the way as we are preparing
the design.  It requires greater skill and
demands from the physician to be up on
the artistry because both the patient and
physician are going to see the results of
the surgery immediately.  The patient
sees if you do really nice work as far as
design, angle, direction and orientation
are concerned.  This Sneak Peak
Technique challenges the surgeon to be
better at the procedure which is better in
the long run for the industry.”

Dr. Ziering is like an artist.  Dr. Ziering
feels, “I like to think it is a combination of
art and medicine.  We are working on a 3-
D structure.  The skull has shape and the
facial features are different for every
individual.  I like to create a hair line that
matches with these facial features and
gives the patient the greatest aesthetic
look including not only the frontal hairline
but the whorl in the back of the head as
well as the temporal peaks.”

The Sneak Peak Technique operation
takes longer from the dissection under
the microscope, the placement of the
graphs, and the incision site of the donor.
This technique is interactive, with both
Dr. Ziering’s latest hair transplant
operation for “Doctor 90210” will be
airing soon.
Dr. Ziering is the first surgeon to perform
a hair transplant on ABC’s hit show
‘Extreme Makeover” and has been
featured on NBC’s Today Show, The
Insider, TAhe Style Network, E!, CBS, Fox
News, and KTLA as well as the LA Times,
OC Register and the Daily Pilot.  He has
successfully performed over 12,000 hair
transplant procedures.

the patient and the physician giving
feedback.  As Dr. Ziering places the
graphs, the patient can see the balance
that is necessary between the area that
he is trying to cover as well as the
desired density;  Dr. Ziering can keep
adding graphs to a zone in the frontal part
of the head until he achieves the desired
density the patient wants before moving
further back on the head;  The patient
says, “I would like to get some coverage
throughout and not have quit that dense.”
Compared to the traditional transplant
where the patient has no idea what “not
quit as dense” means.  The patient might
want some coverage over the entire
head, but with this procedure he is able to
show them.  The doctor can adjust again
and have more density if that is what the
patient desires;

Patients are involved in the decision
making process; Some patients may
need 2,000 graphs in the front of the
head; every one’s hair is different, the
width of each hair shaft, the
characteristics of that hair, the color that
is different, color on the scalp contrast is
different, the curl texture and quality of
the hair is different; 2,000 graphs on one
person is not like 2,000 graphs on
another person.

One of the exciting results of this
procedure, patients do not like the
crusting and scabbing that occurs the
first week with the traditional method, but
now the long hairs camouflage the area
allowing patients to return to work the
next day.  There are multiple benefits with
this procedure.  In hair transplants, the
hairs are so small with thousands to fill a
small space or the whole head.  Dr.
Ziering performs procedures in excess of
3,000 graphs at a time.  Graphs are 1-by-1-
by-1 hairs divided into follicular units with
state- of- the- art techniques with 3-4
hairs in them.
The public is invited to watch Dr. Zierling
operate during his hair transplanting
procedure.  I was thrilled to see him
perform and take photos of the traditional
operation.  There are so many
technicians, so many microscopes, with
such intricate precision;   The patient is
awake for both the traditional method and
Sneak Peak Technique, I saw him eating
lunch, watching television, and talking to
us.  It was exciting taking photos during
the operation, seeing Dr. Ziering’s
delicate work close up.
